Federated Insurance is seeking two full-time accounting interns for our Owatonna, MN office. One will start in January 2024 and the other in June 2024. The paid internships will last for approximately 12-15 weeks with housing provided.

Responsibilities

Preparing monthly financial statements
Completing bank and account reconcilements
Participating in quarterly financial statement presentations
Preparing annual statement for insurance entities
Completing regulatory filings for state agencies
Participating in quarterly industry earnings calls and meetings
Assisting with gathering data for external auditors
Assisting with the preparation of audited financial statements and notes
At the conclusion of the internship, the intern will prepare a presentation outlining their internship experience to the accounting operations team and Human Resources
Minimum Requirements

Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting (Sophomore, Junior or Senior level at the time of internship)
Minimum overall GPA of 3.2
Strong computer knowledge
Ability to use Microsoft Excel or equivalent spreadsheet software

Position Description:

As an Internal Auditor at Federated, you will perform assigned components of financial, operational, information technology, and compliance audits in a timely and professional manner to aid senior management in achieving business goals in accordance with established policies and procedures and without undue business risk.



Responsibilities:

Conducts preliminary planning including: scope development, time estimates, and risk based audit programs. Conducts audit test work in a professional and timely manner. Documents work performed according to established department standards to ensure sufficient, accurate, reliable, concise, and meaningful evidence.
Identifies and evaluates risks and controls; develops audit findings and recommendations.
Assists in the development of factual reports of audit findings for senior management.
Partners with external auditors and internal business partners to perform testing and provide support during annual financial audits of Federated entities. Provides support on other external audits and exams.
Partners with internal business process owners to conduct testing of key financial reporting controls and documents results. Provides consultation on control and test design.
Develops and maintains technical expertise in identifying internal controls, regulatory compliance, audit software, technology, accounting, and auditing.
Minimum Qualifications:

Four-year degree, preferably in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Computer Science, or Business Administration.
Strong computer knowledge.
Excellent Microsoft Office skills including: Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities:

A variety of training ranging from classroom training to computer-based training to individualized mentoring.
Evaluate, implement, and configure infrastructure products.
Monitor and manage the performance and capacity of various infrastructure components (typically one of the following: networking, telecommunications, client hardware, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), web infrastructure, servers, and storage).
Respond to internal and external customer needs.
Minimum Qualifications

Four-year degree with a preferred major in information systems, computer-related field, mathematics, or business; or two-year technical degree with aligned focus on technology infrastructure; or equivalent experience.
Strong Computer knowledge.
Basic understanding of the hardware and software maintained and supported by the given role.
Excellent Microsoft Office skills including: Word, Excel and Outlook.
An unquestioned ability to retain confidential business and personnel information.
