Position Description:

MVEC seeks an Engineering Intern to develop a business case for MVEC’s annual pole inspection. This individual will also be tasked with reviewing MVEC’s pole attachment and propose new ways to enhance the process.


Our internship program will run for approximately 12-14 weeks during the summer starting in May and will report on-site at Minnesota Valley Electric Cooperative located in Jordan, MN. Our program focuses on hands on learning, professional development, industry and business model knowledge, and networking. MVEC interns will collaborate on a shared team project with 10% of your time dedicated to this task that requires a presentation to the Executive Team. 90% of your time will be dedicated to specific job functions as outlined below. Throughout the summer, interns are provided opportunities to learn from and network with senior leadership.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop business case for MVEC’s annual pole inspection program
Reviewing and streamlining the process regarding joint-use pole attachments
Review and develop an understanding for MVEC staking sheet process
Required Qualifications:

Enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program studying Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university
Flexible work schedule in an indoor and outdoor environment
Ability to take direction and initiative, work independently, and multi-task
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access and others)
Eager to learn and grow your professional skills in a casual work setting


Pay and Benefits:

Paid internship at $20.00 per hour.

Accrual of Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST) and 4 hours paid for any MVEC observed holiday while employed.

Work cross-departmentally with a focus between Key Accounts and Energy Services.

Support the implementation of a strategic business plan to optimize products and programs.
Collaborate cross-departmentally and industry-wide to identify and explore marketing opportunities.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of sales processes and procedures.

Required Qualifications:

Enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program studying business or related field with a focus on energy or power systems or an energy and climate related program.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with team members.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Ability to adapt to new software tools and technologies.
