Position Description:

Restoration Ecology: (80%) The intern will be involved in seeding, planting and weed control in natural and created wetlands, uplands and shoreland areas. Throughout the growing season over twenty sites will be maintained. This includes plant management by hand weeding, herbicide application, mechanical methods, watering, and the evaluation of plant establishment. The intern will occasionally work with students and others on planting and maintenance projects.

Carp Management and Biological Monitoring: (15%) The intern will assist with the implementation of carp management techniques, including netting and removal, with occasional weekend duties (1-2 hours). The intern will also assist in the collection of biological and physical/chemical data in selected District restorations, wetlands, and lakes.

Education and Administrative Tasks: (5%) The intern will have opportunities to shadow other District programs and opportunities to educate students and the general public about restoration ecology and carp management. The intern will be responsible for daily record keeping and assistance with other administrative tasks as needed.

Assist the Water Quality Monitoring Coordinator and Technicians with:
1. Routine lake and pond water quality monitoring.
2. Water quality sampling including storm composites and manual grabs.
3. Site and equipment maintenance.
4. Collection of monitoring data from remote instruments.
5. Stream flow measurements.
6. Other special projects as directed.
7. Job shadowing other District departments including education, natural resources, and permitting.

Position Description:

Primary duty will be to assist District Permit Staff in the inspections of construction sites and stormwater best management practices (BMPs). The intern will be involved in inspections during and post construction to ensure compliance and enforce District requirements. The intern will write inspection reports, and communicate findings to contractors and BMP owners. Work activities will include outside field work for inspections and office work such as report writing, record keeping duties, database management, and other duties as needed. The intern will also have opportunities to assist other departments (Natural Resources, Water Quality, Communications, Stewardship Grant, Education) with various field work and office tasks.

Position Description:

Gain valuable experience crafting messaging for a wide, diverse regional audience while providing needed communications services for our watershed district located in the eastern Twin Cities metro area. Assist the Communications and Outreach Coordinator in generating written and creative visual content for social media, website, and other channels as needed. Event planning and coordination support will also be a part of the internship experience. This role allows interns to draft and deliver their campaign to a large, regional audience on a water-focused topic. Training for video editing and photography is provided.
