Breakthrough Minneapolis at Blake, formerly LearningWorks, is part of the national Breakthrough Collaborative that comprises 24 sites across the U.S. and one in Hong Kong. Its overall mission is to launch high potential middle school students on the path to college, while also inspiring talented high school and college students to pursue careers in education.

At Breakthrough Minneapolis at Blake, we achieve this mission by using a “students-teaching-students” model. During our 9 weeks of summer programming, 30 talented college students work as teachers, advisors, and mentors for 80 middle school students from Minneapolis Public Schools, all under the guidance of veteran professional teachers. Breakthrough teachers are creative, diverse, intelligent, and motivated. They represent many academic and personal backgrounds, but share a commitment to students and closing the opportunity gap.
